June 8 – Puma has replaced adidas as the official technical supplier for the South African Football Association (SAFA), signing a kit deal that will last beyond the next two FIFA World Cups.
Puma will now provide the official playing kits for all associated South African teams, including the youth and women’s teams, as well as being the SAFA’s partner for replica kits, fanwear and other merchandise.
South Africa is now the 12th African international team to be wearing the company’s kits, with African Cup of Nations champions Egypt, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Algeria, Senegal, Morocco, Togo, Burkina Faso, Malawi and Namibia also being outfitted by the German sportswear manufacturer.
Kirsten Nematandani, President of the SAFA, said: “To announce this new commercial relationship with Puma is a great privilege for us, and we are very happy to have secured this deal.
“Their technical innovation and excellence is of course important, but more so is the heritage and support they have demonstrated for this continent over a number of years.
“They are the perfect partner as we strive to grow the profile of football in South Africa in the years to come.”
The South African National A team will first wear the new Puma kit, which was launched in Johannesburg, during their next fixture scheduled for the August 10 against opponents still to be confirmed.
