March 8 – Bloomberg Sports has launched an update to its match prediction software that will update its projections in-play and every minute across five major European football leagues.

Bloomberg’s Match Analysis provides predictive models on the winner, final, half-time score, and total goals, breaking down each of the key game stats. The new software will now make that available during the match for the English Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga, and Ligue 1.

Bloomberg Sports launched its first version of its Match Analysis in September, based on analysis of current and historical data. The dynamic in-match stats will now show how match events change the probabilities of different outcomes and statistical situations.

The stats will be particularly useful for fans placing bets who will also be able to see how the bookmakers’ odds change while matches are in-play. For the smart punter it will also give them an edge in the betting markets. For the regulators it could even be  a useful tracking tool for patterns of betting.

According to Bloomberg Sports CEO Bill Squadron, the service “will keep any supporter engaged in one or a dozen matches he or she is interested in, and will provide bettors the ability to compare the pure probabilities with odds offered by bookmakers.”

Bloomberg Sports launched in 2010 takes the technology developed by Bloomberg, and applies it to the data analysis opportunities in sports. Strongly based in the US and American sports, the company provides fantasy products for Major League Baseball (MLB) as well as a professional product that delivers MLB clubs with a secure set of analytical functions to assist them with player evaluation and game preparation.
