May 28 – The Central American Football Union (UNCAF) which is playing its Central American Cup 2014 in the USA later this year, has announced that the final will be played at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on September 13. This is the first time the regional championship has been played outside the Central American region and the 13th time the Cup has been played, as UNCAF prepares to celebrate its 25th anniversary.
The tournament organisers also unveiled the official competition logo.
The competition will be held from September 3-13 with more cities across the US to be announced as hosts. The final match day at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum will be a triple-header with the final, third and fifth place play-offs taking place.
The Central American Cup is the region’s national team championship and the qualifying competition for the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2015 and the Copa America Centenario to be held in the US in 2016.
UNCAF comprises seven member associations – Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama. Costa Rica are the current champions. Costa Rica and Honduras have qualified for the Brazil 2014 World Cup.
The Organizing Committee for the Central American Cup 2014 USA is headed by CONCACAF and Soccer United Marketing. Tickets for the Central American Cup will go on sale in July.
