September 5 – The Jamaican Premier League launched this week with the announcement that Red Stripe has committed to the sponsorship of the competition for the next five seasons.

No figure has been disclosed for the deal, but Red Stripe has sponsored the League for the last three years and the new agreement will bring some stability to the League which the Jamaica Football Federation had been considering replacing with a franchise system starting in the 2015/2016 season.

Red Stripe Jamaica is owned by Desnoes and Geddes Limited, which reported a profit of $3 billion at year end June 2014.

Sales increases this year have been largely due to a 15% increase in domestic business.

Although ‘The Stripe’ is popular with musicians and artists, the company has run into controversy, particularly over its marketing of raspberry flavoured alcopops to female 18-24 year old.
