Social network Hinch.as debuts as ‘Facebook’ for players and fans

February 26 – A new football on-line social platform is being trumpeted by its founders as a revolutionary way of interaction between fans and players.

HINCH.AS, run by an Argentine-based company, will eventually be in eight languages and describes itself as “a revolutionary football social network that will bring the fans closer to their idols than ever before.”

Players and fans are being asked to choose their most important milestone in football history, with 1978 World Cup winner Osvaldo Ardiles, one of the game’s most iconic figures, fronting the launch earlier this week and describing the platform as a “momentous event for football” with the voice of the fans heard as never before.

Hinch.as says over 500 footballers from 70 clubs are already participating in the vote, among them Manchester United striker Radamel Falcao and Barcelona stars Dani Alves and Andres Iniesta.

“There’s a big gap right now between players and fans,” said Ardiles. “It’s not what it used to be. So the more players who sign up to this and integrate with the fans, the better.”

Michael Black, who sits on the board of directors, described the platform, which has already signed up a number of media partners, as a kind of “Facebook for football”.

“We’ve been working on building the platform for around two years now,” said Black. “It’s for fans to have their own place. The environment being created is purely football. You can chat about just about anything.”
