April 13 – Sports media services company delatratre has teamed up with TV graphics producer Vizrt to launch a new virtual sports graphics solution for broadcasters.

The new package integration between Viz Arena’s image-based camera tracking and rendering technology, and deltatre’s Magma sports TV graphics platform, bringing unique live graphics enhancement possibilities.

The new system allows broadcast rights holders to quickly incorporate live player tracking graphics and data into the broadcast. The new live virtual sports graphics solution is currently being demonstrated at the broadcast technology trade show at NAB in Las Vegas.

The graphics package can track a moving player on the pitch and overlay live in-game statistics from the Magma platform into the same on-air virtual graphics.

The solution’s data analysis system goes a step further by automatically suggesting relevant stories or events during the live game. Important game events appear in an intuitive timeline, such as a special passing distribution of a player, a high ball-recovery line, or a variation of the official line-up.

The strength of the system is the speed at which it can deliver the graphics and data to the live broadcast, as well as the greater level of statistics now available to the broadcast. A touchscreen interface brings that information on-air, automatically attached to and tracking the right player. The user interface is designed so that anyone within the production can operate it.

“The vast amount of data gathered during every soccer game makes it very difficult to pull out the most important information at the right time – travelled distance or current speed of a player does not give a real insight into the game,” says Stephan Würmlin Stadler, Executive Vice President of Sports for Vizrt.

Carlo De Marchis, Chief Product Officer at deltatre, said: “Broadcasters are always looking for ways to deliver more in-depth analysis to a sports broadcast. This new integration between Magma and Viz Arena means they can deliver player-relevant information throughout the game. This will create new opportunities for innovative storytelling.”
