May 6 – Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur is continuing to build its brand presence in the US via its licensed product and in advance of its July match-up against the MLS All-Stars team.
Spurs have established strong North American links and last summer played friendlies to sell out crowds in Seattle, Toronto and Chicago. The club has more than 40 Official Supporters Clubs in the region and has built youth partnerships with clubs in Tallahassee, Florida, and El Cerrito, California.
Licensing of the club brand is an important of the club’s expansion both in terms of presence but also commercially. Spurs’ brand licensing manager Gary Jacobson said there is an increased demand for club product worldwide and that North America is a focus of their growth. The club will be exhibiting at the Las Vegas Licensing Expo in June.
“We are pleased with the growth of our global licensing portfolio, having signed multiple deals in the last three years across territories including USA, China, Australia, South Africa and the Middle East, as well as our traditional UK market, and are constantly looking to take the brand into new and exciting areas of retail,” said Jacobson.
“We expect our global licensing programme to continue its rapid growth in coming months, with a key focus in North America. Our involvement at events such as the Licensing Expo 2015 highlights the importance Tottenham Hotspur is placing on the area of international licensing and meeting an increased demand for Club product in key territories.” This will be the third time Spurs have attending this licensing show.
The licensing activity is supported by football activity in the market. Spurs will be the opponents in the MLS All-Star match in Denver, Colorado, 29 July, taking on the best players from the MLS.
The grassroots programme provides on-going and hands-on coaching from Tottenham Hotspur’s Global Coaching team, developing players using the same ethos that is shared by the Club’s Academy. And any young players looking for a Spurs role model need look no further than US Men’s National Team’s Young Player of the Year, DeAndre Yedlin.
