May 8 – Zenit St Petersburg has signed a three-year deal with Japanese carmaker Nissan who becomes an official partner of the club. No value was announced for the agreement.
Zenit has Gazprom as its major sponsor and Nike, Roissiya Airlines, DIY retailer OBI, and telecommunications firm Rostelekom as its premium partners.
Nissan joins in the official partner category which includes Corinthia Hotel St. Petersburg, watchmaker Corum, ferry operator St Peter Line and corporate telecom specialist Severen Telecom. There partners generally offer goods rather than cash for their services, or work on percentages of referred new business.
As an official partner Nissan will provide cars to players and employees of the club and, in turn, will have brand exposure at Zenit home matches and throughout club materials.
General director of Zenit Maxim Mitrofanov said that the Japanese company supports football worldwide and that “we are pleased that Zenit became a partner of the carmaker in Russia. We are united by the desire to always be the first and the incessant search for innovative ideas. I am sure that the partnership will benefit both brands.”
Nissan is also a sponsor of the Champions League.
After 25 games Zenit lead the 16-team Russian Premier League by five points and have a game in hand.
