September 16 – US Club Soccer, the 500,000 member organisation supporting grassroots clubs in the US, has backed the recent US Soccer federation proposals for a revamp of youth soccer in the country and unveiled the pathway to change for its clubs.
The key changes in the USSF proposals are a move to more small-sided games and resultant changes in pitch and goal sizes, and a change of the age-group qualification dates from the school year (August 1 to July 31) to the January to December calendar year.
The age group changes will need to be in place by August 2016, while clubs will have until August 2017 to make the changes required for small-sided matches which affect the Under 6 to under 12 age-groups. US Soccer is encouraging its members to make the changes prior to these dates if possible.
