October 28 – The Spanish football league has agreed a deal with Mediapro to broadcast this season’s Copa del Rey games internationally via YouTube as a pay-per-view offering.

The video-sharing website will show live coverage of the domestic club competition, including matches of giants Barcelona and Real Madrid, in high definition in 17 countries: the UK, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, Portugal, Russia, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia, Macedonia, Ukraine and Greece in Europe; Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong in Asia; Argentina and Brazil in South America.

The length of the deal has not been disclosed, but the arrangement will run until at least the end of the 2015/16 season in which time other countries could be added to the agreement.

Viewers will be able to access individual matches for €4.99 or purchase a tournament-long subscription for €19.99, which includes all matches, bar the final.

YouTube’s coverage of the Copa del Rey will begin on Wednesday with Barcelona’s round-of-16 game away to Villanovense.
