Virtually Live and STATS test first VR match on Scottish League Cup final

March 16 – Virtually Live teamed up with STATS LLC to test their virtual reality technology for the first time on a European football match in Europe covering the Scottish League Cup final on March 13 at Hampden Park – Ross County beat Hibernian 2-1.

The new technology partnership is testing its system again tonight at Hampden Park for the league game between Queens Park and Annan Athletic with a further test planned for this weekend for Queens Park’s game against Arbroath.

The system takes STATS SportVU data and converts the “raw X, Y data into a live virtual reality replica of Hampden Park”. The Virtually Live platform delivers the positions and motions of tracked objects in real-time which enables users to enter the virtual world and socially interact with friends. Fans can choose any perspective on the action and experience the in-stadium atmosphere, including on the field with the players.

The first tests are deemed to have been an important success and Tom Impallomeni, CEO of Virtually Live, is confident that it is a significant first step to rolling the technology out to more matches and leagues.
