June 15 – Big tournaments generate big money – from marketing and broadcast rights fees, tickets and merchandising. And for the host country there is a measurable economic impact for its cities as well as the enhanced profile for the country as a destination.
‘Little tournaments’ can also generate a positive economic impact. US Club Soccer estimates that there will be $4.2 million direct economic impact from its 2016 National Cup XV Finals and National Premier Leagues (NPL) Finals that kick off July 14 in Aurora, Colorado.
The economic compact measures are primarily focus on hotel rooms and spend per head by people attending.
The eight days of competition (July 14-18 for the NPL Finals and July 22-25 for the National Cup XV Finals) will see more than 280 teams and 3,000 players in Colorado. These are age group competitions from U-13 up to U-18 and feature boys and girls league champions from around the country.
With assistance from the City of Aurora, matches will be played at the Aurora Sports Park complex, a 220-acre site 25 minutes from Denver that has 23 pitches.
“For the second time in three years, US Club Soccer is returning to the Denver region to host our two National Championships,” says Kevin Payne, US Club Soccer CEO. “Colorado has welcomed us with open arms and Aurora is well equipped in providing the necessary infrastructure for thousands of athletes and their families during these marquee events.”
