July 12 – Spanish giant Barcelona have announced a new mobile game that is in development with Hugo Games, an interactive entertainment developer and publisher.
Scheduled for release in the second quarter of 2017, the game will include multiplayer options, allowing players around the world to challenge each other and compete in live, player-vs-player competitions.
The game will offer tournament play (online and offline) as well as the ability to challenge friends on Facebook and options to upgrade teams with Barca players with special skills and power boosts.
Barça’s star players will be featured in the game, including Lionel Messi who was dropped from the FIFA 17 cover following his conviction for tax fraud last week.
“We are happy to be partnering with Hugo Games to create such an outstanding FC Barcelona mobile game,” said Francesco Calvo, chief revenue officer from Barcelona. “We wanted to make sure that we partnered on a game that will excite Barça fans while delivering a state-of-the-art gameplay experience”.
Hugo Games is the publisher of the Cristiano Ronaldo: Kick’n’Run game.
“Hugo Games is rapidly becoming the worldwide leader in mobile sports games and the addition of FC Barcelona is another step towards our goal of providing sports fans with the best games possible on their mobile devices,” said Henrik Kølle, CEO in Hugo Games.
With many videogamers locked in complaint with EA Games over its blockbuster FIFA franchise and what they claim is a ‘fix’ within the game, the market may be further opening up for rival game builders to launch into this space with new branded games.
