August 30 – England goalkeeper Joe Hart, whose omission from the Manchester City side now managed by Pep Guardiola has made headline sporting news across the United Kingdom and beyond, has managed to find another club as the transfer window deadline approaches.
Hart is poised to join Torino on a season-long loan deal, according to media reports, after being given permission to leave by City who have just signed Claudio Bravo from Guardiola’s former club Barcelona.
Torino sporting director Gianluca Petrachi was quoted as saying: “The goalkeeper is an idea we wanted to follow. If it’s Hart then good, otherwise we will certainly be doing something on the market for that role.”
Torino who finished 12th in Serie A last season, have started the new campaign by taking three points from their first two games.
The English Football Association reportedly gave Hart the all-clear to briefly leave the England camp so he could travel to Italy during international week. A deal is now likely to be completed before the August 31 transfer deadline, with Hart then rejoining the England squad for Sunday’s 2018 World Cup qualifying match in Slovakia.
Meanwhile, Oliver Burke has become Scotland’s most expensive player ever after only 13 starts for English Championship club Nottingham Forest. The 19-year-old winger, who has won two caps for his national team, has been signed up by newly promoted German side RB Leipzig for a reported £13 million.
After his recent brace against Wigan Athletic, Forest team-mate Thomas Lam compared Burke in style and physique to Gareth Bale, until recently the world’s most expensive player. “He is a great talent and potentially a great player,” said the Finland defender. “He is a similar player to Gareth Bale. I do not want to say he is definitely going to be as good as him, but you can see the similarities there – he does scare the life out of opponents.”
Burke had been linked with a raft of clubs including Arsenal, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester United but Leipzig emerged out of nowhere to clinch his signature.
