November 9 – Premier League Tottenham Hotspur have expanded their charitable activity in China with Jaguar Land Rover China with the addition of a hook-up with the China Soong Ching Ling Foundation. The new partnership is seeking to strengthen ties between British and Chinese children through a shared passion for football.
This is the third Jaguar China-UK Football & Cultural Exchange and the first time Spurs have participated.
The exchange will see 40 children from some of China’s most underprivileged areas undertake a week of coaching at Spurs’ Enfield training ground working with club coaches.
The cultural exchange will include a friendly football match against British students.
Richard Shore, Acting Regional President Jaguar Land Rover Greater China, said: “As well as the unforgettable experience of training at Tottenham Hotspur, the Jaguar China-UK Football & Cultural Exchange will provide a platform for these Chinese children to learn valuable skills, expand their horizons and forge new friendships with their British counterparts through a mutual love of football. This exchange underscores Jaguar Land Rover China’s commitment to creating opportunities for children through our Dream Fund CSR programmes and building bridges between the UK and China.”
Through the Dream Fund, Jaguar Land Rover China has invested 50 million yuan (£5 million) over three years in China.
In September the Jaguar Football Campus Guangzhou, Delivered by Tottenham Hotspur was launched, providing a year-long programme that will give 42 PE teachers from 42 primary and secondary schools in Guangzhou elite-level coaching. Spurs coaches will visit Guangzhou three times over the next year to provide the teachers with coaching training that will eventually communicate to more than 8,000 children.
Spurs have taken a more hands-on approach in China in comparision to some of their Premier League counterparts who have focused on sponsorship sales first. Club coaches having spent more than 100 days in China over the past two years running a range of coaching initiatives.
Building their Chinese base around a fan engagement strategy, Spurs have held ‘on-ground’ events for the Club’s three registered Chinese Official Supporters Clubs and digital activities across platforms such as Weibo, WeChat and the official Tottenham Hotspur Mandarin website
