January 11 – Chelsea are going to win the Premier League, Real Madrid will win Spain’s La Liga, Bayern Munich will top the Bundesliga and Juventus will champion in Italy’s Serie A. In France PSG will get knocked off their perch by Monaco for the Ligue 1 title.
These are the predictions of the CIES Football Observatory which has developed a predictive analysis of the final rankings of the big-5 European leagues.
The data analysts say that: “According to our approach, despite recent wins, Manchester United won’t be able to rank higher than sixth. Liverpool will finish second ahead of Manchester City and Arsenal. In Germany, Hamburg will be relegated for the first time in its history. In Italy, Inter will only rank fifth, while AC Milan will downgrade to seventh position.”
The CIES based its analysis on stats built across five seasons of play and which “were integrated within a multivariate statistical model estimating points achieved in the second half of the season.”Broadly the key areas were categorised as Defensive performance, Offensive performance, and Grip on the game.
Of course these are only predictions but they will make for an interesting end of season comparison against the final league finishes.
