November 14 – Manchester City, praised for their creative attacking, appear to have now solved their defensive leaks according to a new set of stats that ranks them top of clubs in the Big 5 European leagues in terms of least shots on their goal from inside the box.
The data, from the CIES Football Observatory, takes into account 35 European leagues and ranks Man City ninth overall with an average 3.45 shots on goal per game from inside the box. Slovenia’s Olimpija Ljubljana top the ranking with 3.4.
Only 12 clubs from the five major European leagues are in the top 100. Almost all the clubs ranked in to top 100 are currently in the top three of their domestic leagues.
Napoli are second ranked amongst Big 5 league teams, at 13th equal with Celtic. PSG, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Liverpool and Real Madrid are the other Big 5 league teams in the top 50.
