AFC tasks Sportradar to take fight against match-fixing criminals to next level

January 8 – The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has boosted its anti-matchfixing armoury via a renewed deal with Sportradar that will see the sports integrity specialists expand their servies to include investigations beyond just identifying fraud on the pitch.

The new deal will in its first phase last for two years beginning in 2018.

Sportradar is already leading the way with the AFC in Asia with the monitoring of matches for betting related manipulation across its major national leagues and AFC competitions.

The new deal with Sportradar significantly expands that role into investigating and identifying the criminals behind match-fixing fraud. The role will be to gather information and evidence for the AFC’s own judicial bodies but also to share that intelligence with lawe enforcement bodies and, ultimately, lead to criminal convictions,

AFC President Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa (pictured right) said: “The fight against match-fixing is imperative and remains ongoing. We, at the AFC, take this threat extremely seriously and our actions during recent years demonstrate our zero-tolerance stance. But we also appreciate that times are changing, and technology is needed to combat this ever-growing threat. Sportradar’s technology and proven expertise will help us to target those corrupting our game.”

Sportradar chief executive Carsten Koerl (pictured left) said: “Our Fraud Detection System has long been proven as a potent weapon against match manipulation. And now our Intelligence and Investigation products will give the AFC an added layer of protection.”
