November 15 – Scottish football has secured a second key TV rights deal following on from news last week that the SPFL was closing in on a £100 million three-year deal with Sky.

Premier Sports have stepped up for a six-year TV rights deal for the Scottish Cup through media broker IMG, reportedly worth £20 million.

The new broadcast deals will see subscription channel Premier Sports share broadcast rights with BBC Scotland and screen live Scottish Cup ties until the end of season 2023-24.

SFA chief executive Ian Maxwell said: “The Scottish Cup is a tournament that is steeped in history.

“In it, the clubs and players have created countless unforgettable memories. This deal will ensure that more action than ever before will be broadcast live to the nation.

“It will also drive significant revenue back to all the clubs who participate in the competition, ensuring ongoing investment into the game.”

Four live Cup matches will be screened in rounds four to six, with both broadcasters screening two live games per round of the competition on an exclusive basis.

Premier Sports will broadcast one semi-final tie exclusively while the other semi-final and the showpiece final will be shown across both channels.

Richard Webb, chief operating officer of Premier Sports, said: “Over the last eight years we have established a positive relationship with Scottish football clubs and supporters covering their teams European qualifiers.”

SPFL close in on £100m TV boost

The new Sky deal with the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership would begin with the 2020-21 campaign and would see the all rights switch to Sky in a three-year agreement – they are currently shared with BT Sport.

Sky Sports will broadcast at least 60 matches a season, including the four Old Firm derbies, plus end of season Premiership play-offs.

The new deal is worth about £30 million a year, an increase on the current £21 million a year joint agreement.
