February 15 – Concacaf has taken a deeper step in live streaming with the announcement that 2019 Champions League matches will be broadcast in English on Yahoo Sports platforms, a part of the confederation’s multi-platform media-rights deal with Verizon.
The matches will be streamed on the Yahoo Sports app on iOS and Google Play as well as on Yahoo’s website. Verizon holds exclusive English language rights to distribute multiple Concacaf tournaments in the US, as well as rights to distribute on digital and mobile devices in Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.
In 2018 Concacaf and Verizon agreed a multi-platform media rights deal to distribute CONCACAF tournaments across Verizon’s digital media platforms, which include Yahoo Sports. Univision Deportes (Spanish-language in US), Fox Sports Latin America (Mexico & Central America) and Flow Sports (Caribbean) are among the other outlets broadcasting action across the region.
The Champions League kicks off next Tuesday and will feature 16 teams with the eventual champions representing the region in the FIFA Club World Cup. Mexico’s C.D. Guadalajara are the reigning champions after defeating Toronto FC in the final last season. It was their second continental title after winning the 1962 CONCACAF Champions’ Cup against Guatemala’s Comunicaciones F.C.
