September 20 – Sports law association Rex Sport has opened its Master in International Sports Law programme for applications for the 2020 academic year. The one-year course is run in conjunction with the CEU IAM Business School in Spain.
The course programme includes 330 hours of in-class lectures led by top sports lawyers and academics, as well as individual exercises and project work, and 500 hours of work experience with a Rex Sport-affiliated law firm or a sport organisation in a subsequent internship.
“RexSport established its first Master Program in International Sport Law 12 years ago, aimed at providing the students with a unique, original and first of its kind type of program, consisting of the perfect mixture between teaching the various aspects of sport law at an academic and theoretical level and, at the same time, providing the students with a practical knowledge and experience of working in sports law businesses and organisations,” said Efraim Barak, course programme director and a member of the Rex Sport board. Barak is founding partner at EB Sport Law and an Arbitrator at CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport).
The educational base of the programme is to give students knowledge of the subjects and national and international institutions involved and which are governed by specific sports regulations (lex sportive) and general and state regulations. Similarly it instructs on the bodies responsible for settling disputes and the scope of their power to implement their resolutions, as well as providing an understanding of the growing interest in and developments in lex sportiva and its impact on the legal and economic spheres.
Previous editions of the Rex Sport programmes have seen graduates take positions throughout the sports business, not only as lawyers but also as agents or internal advisors of sports institutions such as clubs or federations.
Potential admission to course begins with an interview with Barak to examine the personal and professional objectives of the candidate and their the fit between their aspirations and the programme.
