September 27 – UEFA has unveiled details of its first ever eSports European championships – eEURO 2020 – that will be played on Konami’s eFootball PES 2020.
The national team eFootball tournament will feature all 55 of UEFA’s member associations –
the largest national team eFootball event to date – with each national team comprising between two and four gamers, they will compete for a place at the final tournament in London from July 9-10, just before the final of the EURO 2020 at Wembley Stadium on July 12.
While some nations may have an eFootball team they can enter, those that don’t will “choose team members on the basis of a tournament, either online or physical”.
Once teams are selected a draw in January will create a 10-group qualifying phase to be played between March and May 2020.
Each country will play two matches (one v one) against the other teams in their group. Sixteen countries will qualify for the final tournament in London.
