November 19 – With the MLS having just completed its regular season, the eMLS has announced its competitive schedule for 2020 that will begin in January 2020, a couple of months before action on the pitch kicks off.
The 2020 season will see three new clubs take part next season – LAFC, Austin and Nashville – taking the number of players to 25.
The season opener in January 2020 sees two eMLS League Series tournaments which will be live streamed on MLSsoccer.com, Twitch and Twitter.
League Series One will be played in Philadelphia on January 10 in conjunction with the Philadelphia Union. League Series Two will be held in Portland on February 15 in conjunction with the Portland Timbers.
These tournaments will allow players to accumulate points to determine seeding for the eMLS Cup which will close out the eMLS season during the second weekend of the SXSW (South by Southwest) esports jamboree in Austin, Texas in March. The eMLS is presented by PlayStation.
The MLS says more tournament details for League Series, as well as eMLS Cup, will be announced in the coming weeks.
The eMLS will feed into the EA Sports regional competition which culminates with the best EA SPORTS FIFA 20 player in North America. As an Official League Partner of the EA SPORTS FIFA 20 Global Series, the eMLS Cup winner will received 850 Global Series points, supporting their qualification for the Global Series Playoffs and ultimately the FIFA eWorld Cup.
