April 8 – With esports providing pretty much the only opportunity for competitive action as the coronavirus lockdown grips the world, clubs and increasingly broadcasters are picking up the opportunity to engage fans.
Paris Saint-Germain launched its online FIFA competition last Friday, and within 12 hours the initiative was heavily oversubscribed, receiving 1,400 applications from 66 different countries.
Now beIN SPORTS has joined the party announcing it will broadcast the #ALLatHome Gaming Cup tournament across its global network, including France, USA, Asia-Pacific, and 24 countries in the Middle East and North Africa.
The competition will be played every week for the coming month and will include the chance to compete against one of PSG’s 1st team stars including layvin Kurzawa, Julian Drazler and Juan Bernat. The game is also followed by a fixture against PSG eSports FIFA professional DaXe.
beIN already broadcasts eSports including e-ligue1 and EA FIFA Global Series. The PSG coverage will be a 60-minute show including the best goal of the week from the competition, the entire match against the Paris Saint-Germain pro player, entire match against DaXe, and reactions from competitors.
Florent Houzot, beIN SPORTS FRANCE Programs & On-Air Director, said: “With the coronavirus pandemic meaning that live physical sport is temporarily on hold in most countries, we anticipate strong viewing figures from gaming competitions like this one as fans around the world are asked to stay indoors, but want to be entertained by the teams and players they love.”
