Covid crackdown: Aussie fixture chaos as Queensland closes border to New South Wales

July 29 – Professional sport in Australia including top-flight football has once again been plunged into chaos because of the reprecussions of Covid-19.

Authorities in Queensland are shutting the border later this week to anyone arriving from Sydney, which is based in neighbouring New South Wales, after the city was declared a Covid-19 hotspot.

While sports like rugby league and Aussie Rules will be hardest hit, the top flight A-League seems likely to be affected, with Queensland-based Brisbane Roar playing in Sydney twice in the next two weeks.
