December 8 – FIFA is reporting a record 480 teams entered into its FIFAe Club Series, a 150% increase on last season.
Currently at the start of the two-month qualifying phase for the FIFAe Club World Cup 2021, players represent their clubs in the standalone FIFAe Club Series ecosystem and compete in a remote team format.
Qualifying includes leading teams including reigning champion Complexity Gaming, two-time world champion Brøndby IF, Fnatic, Hashtag United, Azpilicueta’s Falcons, Ronaldinho’s R10 Team and last-year’s runners-up Ellevens. However, pp and coming teams have to work their way through the pre-qualifying rounds before they meet the established elite.
The qualifiers are split into six server zones and will be produced remotely with a broadcast crew reporting live from a central studio and players competing from home.
The FIFAe Club Online Qualifiers started December 3 with a pre-qualification round featuring all registered clubs that have not been verified by FIFA. FIFA said this provides a dedicated qualification path for teams to compete against the world’s best clubs in the next qualification stage.
The second round, to be played in January, features all registered competitive FIFA clubs that have been verified by FIFA or qualified via the pre-qualification path. The best placed teams of the final round and of the consistency ranking in each respective conference will qualify for the play-offs. These will determine the best clubs in selected zones with more than 150 teams competing for the final places.
The final event will be brought to an international audience and will be live-streamed from 24-28 February across FIFA’s digital channels. Qualification for the final will also take into account a team’s FIFA ranking.
