FIFA launch into esports entertainment with Face-Off game show

March 22 – FIFA have caught the esports bug, and the revenue wave its FIFA21 video game has brought, and launched another new competition this weekend.

FIFA Face-Off is a two-part game show that will see teams of celebrities, influencers, and professional FIFA players take on each other for a chance to win a share of $25,000 in prize money.

Last week FIFA’s accounts showed licensing rights contributed almost $159 million, or just under 60%, of 2020 revenue. “A key source of revenue in the licensing rights area was brand licensing for video games. In contrast to the many economic sectors that were drastically affected by covid-19, the video game industry proved far more resilient to the pandemic,” FIFA said.

The new live competition entertainment game show (as opposed to a mass-participation competition) helps keep FIFA relevant and modern in the fast evolving egaming space.

Broadcast on EA Sports’ Twitch and YouTube channels, the second show airs March 26, with popular FIFA content creator Edwin ‘Castro1021’ Castro hosting the competition.
