May 6 – US broadcaster Fox Sports has added English language rights for Conmebol’s competitions in a six-year deal.
Univision already holds the rights in Spanish for the US market, while the South American World Cup Qualifying rights for the US are not included in the Fox package as they are being sold exclusively to PPV in the US by Integrated Sports Media (those rights are with the individual federations). Fubo TV have picked up the package.
The Fox agreement begins with the Copa América 2021 which is taking place in Argentina and Colombia from June 12 to July 12.
Conmebol will provide 1,500 hours of national team matches over the term of the agreement including three editions of the Women’s Copa America and the men’s Copa America in 2024. Conmebol beach soccer and futsal as well as regional youth team competitions are covered.
Conmebol president Alejandro Domínguez. “They have been instrumental in growing the game in the United States, and we are thrilled to partner with them to bring the excitement of Conmebol’s 2021 Copa America to the fans in the same manner they’ve been able to do so with the men’s and women’s World Cups.”
Fox will be the lead broadcaster for Concacaf’s Gold Cup this summer (group stages kick off July 10 with a preliminary knock out round starting July 3), and also holds the rights to both the men’s and women’s World Cup finals.
Mark Silverman, president of national networks for Fox Sports, said: “Conmebol is the perfect addition to Fox Sports’ elite slate of international soccer properties. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue to grow the game in the US by showcasing some of the best men’s and women’s teams and players from around the world as they suit up for top international competition.”
