May 19 – beIN Sports has extended its broadcast rights deal with Spain’s LaLiga for the French market until 2024.
The deal comes with the backdrop of a huge correction in value in the French broadcast market following the exit of Mediapro and the loss of the €800 million deal for Ligue 1 rights.
Part of the Ligue1 inventory in the French market has already been picked up by beIN in the short term, with discussions currently underway with the French league for a new long term rights deal. At the same time beIN is in discussion for new deals with Germany’sBundesliga and Italy’s Serie A for its French channel. beIN holds rights in France for the Euros this summer.
With the LaLiga extension, the partnership with beIN will have been in existence for more than 10 years. The agreement will see every league match covered either live or with highlights. OutsideEurope, beIN Sports continues to be one of LaLiga’s most important overseas partners, broadcasting the league in 35 countries worldwide including the 24 countries of the Middle East & North Africa and 11 countries in the Asia Pacific.
