Human trafficking in sport in focus at Mission98 and SiNAFE round table this week

September 5 – Mission98 and the SiNAFE Project are hosting a round table in Lausanne (September 7-8) to address the issues of human trafficking in sport and in particular the social inclusion of African migrant athletes in the EU.

The roundtable discussions are aimed at raising awareness of the scale of the existing issues, and will give the opportunity for sport and institutional stakeholders to share knowledge, as well as outline next steps towards implementation of better systems to tackle the problems.

The SiNAFE Project was conceived within the European Pillar of Social Rights Framework and is funded via an EU Erasmus+ Collaborative Partnership with the aim of promoting social inclusion and equal chances in sport for all individuals, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, from the premise of ‘sport as a human right.’

Participants will hear first person accounts by African migrant athletes on the challenges they faced, and solutions they found in adapting to their new life in Europe.

Looking at the scale of the problem a field study report will bring social context to the inclusion of African migrant athletes in three different phases: pre-migration, transit process, and post-migration. The aim being to focus on challenges, support mechanisms, and generally outline the underlying factors of athlete migration and its specific dynamics.

There will also be stakeholder discussion on the differing concepts of social inclusion, best practice and solution-based proposals and open discussion on ways to coordinate a multi-stakeholder solutions-focused.

The Mission 89 SiNAFE Roundtable Meeting can be accessed via Zoom by clicking here. The first session begins at 10am CET on Thursday September 7.
