Women’s World Cup 2023 sells first 500k tickets, February play-off games now on sale

January 17 – FIFA is reporting more than 500,000 tickets have been sold for the Women’s World Cup 2023 to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand in July and August.

The highest ticket demand is for the August 20 final at Stadium Australia in Sydney, Australia. The opening match and opening ceremony will take place on July 20 at New Zealand’s Eden Park in Auckland. New Zealand face Norway in the first game.

FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura said: “Ticket sales for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 are off to a great start and it’s not just home fans in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand purchasing tickets!

“Fans residing in the United States of America, England, Qatar, Germany, China PR, Canada, the Republic of Ireland and France are the top 10 purchasers of FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 tickets so far. This highlights the fantastic pull of the female game and the passion it evokes among the global football fandom, who want to be part of the FIFA Women’s World Cup and see the event reach #BeyondGreatness.”

FIFA said that fans from more than 120 countries have bought tickets for the first co-hosted Women’s World Cup which for this edition has been expanded to 32 teams. Organisers are targeting 1.5 million ticket sales.

Morocco, Zambia, Philippines, Vietnam and the Republic of Ireland are all first-time qualifiers for the finals.

A further three teams have still to qualify from a 10-team play-off tournament to be held in Hamilton and Auckland, New Zealand, February 17-23. Portugal, Cameroon, Thailand, Chile, Haiti, Senegal, Chinese Taipei, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay and Panama are competing for the final slots.

Tickets for those matches go on sale today. FIFA also said that hospitality packages for the finals are now on sale.
