March 23 – Concacaf will kick off the road to the Gold Cup final at the SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles, at the SoFi Stadium with the draw the 2023 edition of the confederation’s blue riband men’s national team championship on April 14.
The draw will determine not only the tournament groups but also the match-ups for the 12-team preliminary knock-out round that will be played in the week before the Gold Cup kicks off on June 16. Three teams qualify for the group stages from the knock-out rounds which were a successful addition to the Gold Cup programme in 2021 and will again be centralised in Fort Lauderdale.
The draw will be televised on Fox Sports and TUDN/ViX in the USA, Televisa/ViX in Mexico, One Soccer in Canada, and ESPN/ Star+ in the Caribbean, Central, and South America. It is also available in Concacaf GO, Concacaf Facebook page, and Concacaf YouTube channel.
It is a mark of the progress and importance of the Gold Cup that the draw has been turned into a televised event on major channels and will be held at the SoFi Stadium, the favourite to host the 2026 World Cup final.
Concacaf president Victor Montagliani, as well as the head coaches of the national teams participating in the 2023 Gold Cup and a number of important guests will be present.
Final qualifying for the group stages and the knock-out preliminary rounds begins tonight with the Nations League being the route into the competition. Qualifiers will be complete by the end of the current international match window (March 28) and see the League A group winners and runners-up (eight teams) and the League B group winners (four teams) securing their berths.
The preliminary round qualifiers goes deeper into the Nations League structure and will include the League A third-place finishers (four teams), the League B second place finishers (four teams), and the League C group winners (four teams).
