Nagelsmann’s downhill run at Bayern finds Tuchel waiting in the wings

March 24 – Julian Nagelsmann has been left stunned by Bayern Munich’s decision to sack him while still in contention to win three trophies, according to German reports.

Bild newspaper reports the 35-year-old has been shown the door after Bayern lost 2-1 at Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Sunday and Borussia Dortmund moved top of the Bundesliga.

Nagelsmann took charge in 2021 and led Bayern to their 10th German title in a row last season. They play Manchester City next month in the Champions League quarter-finals.

German reports say former Paris St Germain and Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is being installed in place of Nagelsmann, ruling Tuchel out as one of the possible candidates to take over at Tottenham Hotspur from Antonio Conte.

Conte is reported to be on the verge of being dismissed after a highly critical outburst following the 3-3 draw with bottom-placed Southampton.

Conte, who returned to Italy earlier this week in the wake of his astonishing attack on his own players, was again absent from first team training this week adding to the mounting speculation that his turbulent 16-month spell in charge is about to end.

According to Sky Germany, Bayern chiefs have grown concerned at the way in which they have surrendered domestic dominance given they won the title last term by eight points, and by not seeing enough player development under Nagelsmann.

Apparently the final straw came when he opted to take a skiing holiday during the current international break, rather than remain at the club

Tuchel is said to be expected to take training on Monday with his first game set to be against none other than Dortmund – another of his previous clubs – in a top of the table clash on April 1 dubbed Der Klassiker.
