Inter push academy system into South America with Chile launch

March 27 – Inter Milan’s academy spread has grown to 14 countries with the launch of the latest Inter Academy in Santiago, Chile.

Inter reckons it has more than 3 million “people interested” in the club in Chile.

Former FC Internazionale Milano defender Javier Zanetti, now a club Vice President, said: “This new initiative shares Inter’s belief in training new generations and offers Chilean boys and girls the chance to develop and wear the Inter jersey while staying in their own country.”

Inter Academy Chile will be run from two local sites: Ciudad Universitaria y del Deporte of San Sebastian University, one of Chile’s leading higher education structures and where academy players will continue their learning, and Club LAF (Club Liga Amigos del Futbol / Friends of Football League), a sports club with a state-of-the-art sports centre, which will be the official headquarters of Inter Academy.

Zanetti and former Nerazzurri striker and Inter Academy Chile Ambassador Ivan Zamorano were present for the launch and ran a special training session for 200 local boys and girls.

“I’m very happy to see the birth of this new Inter Academy in Chile,” Inter Academy Chile Ambassador Ivan Zamorano commented. “I share strong ties with the Nerazzurri and I’m happy to be an ambassador for the project in mycountry and to help develop our young footballers on a sporting and human level. The project will be based at Club Liga del Futbol, with its eight-hectare facility in the heart of Penalolen, and Ciudad Universitaria y del Deporte of USS,one of our country’s biggest private universities with a top-level sports club of its own. We already have over 200children enrolled and we hope to add further schools in the metropolitan area of Santiago soon.”
