Injury set to keep England striker Mead out of World Cup

March 29 – England’s Beth Mead, star of her country’s Euro triumph, will miss out on this summer’s World Cup unless a “miracle happens” according to manager Sarina Wiegman.

The Lionesses boss has omitted Mead in her squad for friendlies against Brazil and Australia as the forward continues to recover from a knee injury.

Mead, who claimed the Golden Boot and player of the tournament award when England won the Euros last summer, has been sidelined since November.

“I had a conversation with her, she’s doing well, she’s in her rehab, she’s doing good, but the World Cup is actually too early,” said Wiegmann.

“So what we said is she’s not in our plans now, just really take the time to get back well. But if a miracle happens and she goes so fast, then we will reconsider it – but at this moment, I don’t expect that.”
