US women continue to dominate FIFA rankings ahead of World Cup 2023

April 6 – While the men’s World Ranking has seen Argentina take over at the top, the women’s ranking, with teams deep into their April international window, sees the USA still dominant in top position, one they have held since 2017.

The ranking, released March 24, updated with 112 international matches played since December 2022 and included the Play-Off Tournament for the Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand that kicks off this July.

While the US slipped ranking points after losses in Europe to England and Spain, the latest ranking shows them having consolidated with a win in the SheBelieves Cup for the sixth time, beating Brazil 2-1 in the final.

They head Germany, Sweden and England who beat Italy, Korea Republic and Belgium to win the Arnold Clark Cup.

In the latest window the European Champions beat South American Champions Brazil on penalties in the Finalissima at Wembley, a result that will reflect well in their ranking points.

Australia moved back into the Top 10 with good Cup of Nations results against Spain (7th), Jamaica (43rd, up one) and Czech Republic (27th, up one).

Kosovo (103rd, up eight) were the biggest climbers in terms of places.

There are 188 nations ranked in the latest ranking with Cape Verde (133rd) and Saudi Arabia (171st) being ranked for the first time.
