April 14 – Mongolia opened its Air Dome last week with its U-17 women’s national team playing Hong Kong in a friendly.
It was the first use of the FIFA-funded facility that will provide cover for the National Team Training Centre. For seven months of the year the country experiences temperatures that dip below zero. For five of those months temperatures never go above zero.
Terbaatar Dambiijav, General Secretary of Mongolian Football Federation (MFF), said the facility will “ensure football is now available for us across all four seasons.”
The U-17 Women’s game against Hong Kong was a ‘warm-up’ for the AFC U-17 Women Asian Cup qualifiers that being this month and complete in September. Qualifiers will go through to the finals that will be played in Indonesia in 2024.
“This game [against Hong Kong] was the first international match in the Air Dome,” said Dambiijav.
“The match was very important for our team to prepare for the forthcoming AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup Group B qualifier.”
”The Air Dome will serve as the launch-pad for our future success,” he concluded.
