April 25 – A new online educational programme has been launched to fight match-fixing and betting-fraud in sport.
The programme comes out of an Erasmus+ Sport project and sees partners ICSS and others involved in the ‘BITEFIX’ initiative target the training at athletes, coaches, and sport officials, with in depth knowledge of match-fixing and its associated problems including illegal sports betting.
The launch took place during the ‘BITEFIX,’ EU ERASMUS+ Sport project’s 5th transnational meeting held at HAŠK Mladost Sports Centre in Zagreb, Croatia.
As a part of the launch, a first training session designed for athletes and club staff was held.
“This was an important moment for sharing the tools produced by the consortium so far, available at the project’s website, and highlight the importance of bringing people together to strengthen the resilience of sports’ organisations and work with determination and passion for the safeguard of sport’s values,” said Diogo Guia, Executive-Director ICSS Europe, and Project Coordinator.
Affy Sheikh, Head of Starlizard Integrity Services, a BITEFIX partner, said: “Delivering training and education programmes to athletes and clubs, raising awareness about the extent and threat of match-fixing and how it can affect them, is such an important facet of sports integrity work. With that in mind, it was great to engage with the athletes and club officials at HAŠK Mladost on the subject today.”
