What to expect
Cuba are making their 11th appearance in the Gold Cup and arrive on the back of a Nations League campaign that saw them win five matches, only losing once. They are in a group with Canada, Guatemala and Guadeloupe and expect to be competitive for a place in the knockout rounds. Part of the Cuban story is always how many players they lose when they arrive in the US, with defections being a major headache. In 2021 Cuba struggled with getting Visas to the US for key players. They also had the ignominy of their kit not arriving and having to borrow a kit for the first game.
Star Players
Stiker Luis Paradela who plays his club football for Saprissa in Costa Rica, is the standout though upfront while Arichell Hernandez is also in goalscoring form. Captain Carlos Vazquez is the anchor of the defense at centre back.
Manager
Pablo Elier Sánchez
From 2013 to 2018, Sánchez was manager of Cuban club Pinar del Rio. In July 2019, Sánchez was appointed manager of Cuba having previously being involved in the national team set us as a physical trainer.
