June 7 – The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has appointed MATCH Hospitality Asia to deliver the commercial hospitality programme for the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023.
As part of the deal MATCH Accommodation Asia will be designated as an ‘Official Accommodation Agency of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023’ and will run an accommodation programme within Qatar.
The hospitality programme will see MATCH Accommodation Asia offer ticket and accommodation packages.
Datuk Seri Windsor John, the AFC General Secretary, said: “The AFC is delighted to partner with MATCH Hospitality Asia, and we are confident that they will set new benchmarks in engaging the largest football community in world football, as underlined in the AFC’s Vision and Mission, through the biggest single sports event on the Continent.”
The Asian Cup was originally scheduled to be played in the summer of 2023 in China. With China pulling out over concerns over the covid crisis, Qatar was awarded the hosting for the tournament that will now be played 12 January to 10 February 2024.
The advantage of relocating the event to Qatar at such notice is that having just hosted the 2022 World Cup, the country has the infrastructure and experience to deliver a major tournament.
Enrique Byrom, CEO of MATCH Hospitality Asia said: “Through our extensive experience of working on high-profile sports events in Asia and around the world, together with our recent working knowledge of the stadiums and hotel infrastructure within Qatar, we are certain that this next edition of the AFC Asian Cup™ will prove to be an outstanding success.”
