Haaland tops Mbappé as world’s most valuable player

July 18 – Manchester City’s Erling Haaland has overtaken PSG ‘want-away’ Kylian Mbappé as the world’s most valuable player, according to the latest update of Football Benchmark’s Player Valuation platform.

Haaland is valued at €194 million, €12 million more than Mbappé (€182 million). Vinícius Jr. has the third highest value at €157 million.

Football Benchmark points out that all players in the top 10 are aged 24 or less. Victor Osimhen (SSC Napoli) and Bukayo Saka (Arsenal), are newcomers to the top 10.

There are now eight clubs surpassing the € 1 billion total squad value mark, said Football Benchmark, with at least one club from each of the top divisions of England, Spain, Germany and France.

“Among the so-called ‘Big Five’ leagues, only Italy is missing. The most valuable squad from the Serie A belongs to champions Napoli (€697 million),” said Football Benchmark.

Manchester City FC lead the rankings with a squad market value of almost €1.4 billion, followed Arsenal (€1.3 billion). Chelsea dropped from 2nd to 8th place, as the club sold several players, including Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and Kalidou Koulibaly, during the current transfer window.

A list of the top 10 transfers done so far in the current transfer window show eight of the buyers being Premier League clubs. The list was compiled before the £100 million sale of Declan Rice to Arsenal from West Ham.
