August 18 – On the eve of the Women’s World Cup final, FIFA and Football Australia will stage a community football tournament on the Unity Pitch in front of the Sydney Opera House.
Titled the Beyond Greatness Community Football Tournament, the celebration grassroots event will feature four U16 girls teams. Two New South Wales State Indigenous Representative U16 teams will play a round-robin competition with teams from Kissing Point FC and Hurlstone Park Wanderers FC.
FIFA Legends including Brazil’s Formiga, France’s Laura Georges and England internationals Fara Williams and Kelly Smith, will also participate in the tournament.
The games will be played between 2pm and 5pm, before the 6pm kick-off of the third placed match between Sweden and Australia. Fans can watch that match at the FIFA Fan Festival at Tumbalong Park which is a short distance from the Opera House.
FIFA’s Unity Pitch was unveiled at Sydney Harbour during the One-Year-To-Go milestone in July 2022. During the finals it has travelled to every Host City in Australia and New Zealand, engaging tens of thousands of participants.
