August 29 – Manchester United have now turned to Tottenham Midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the latest effort to bolster their midfield.
The 28-year-old Denmark international has struggled for starts in Spurs’ opening Premier League matches, as new boss Ange Postecoglou has established a firing midfield comprised of new signing James Maddison, young talent Pape Matar Sarr and a reinvigorated Yves Bissouma.
It is likely that Hojbjerg would be brought in as a depth option for Brazilian midfielder Casemiro, who spent seven Premier League games suspended last term due to poor discipline.
A deal that would see Scott McTominay move from Manchester United to Bayern Munich is gaining traction. United are in favour of the move as it could help them gain leverage over rivals Liverpool in a deal for FC Bayern’s 21-year-old midfielder Ryan Gravenberch, who has been closely linked to both clubs and would cost in the region of €30 million.
Al-Ittihad are preparing to launch a bid of around £129 million for Liverpool star Mohamed Salah in an effort to test Liverpool’s resolve- thus far they have insisted that the 31-year-old Egyptian is not for sale, especially this late in the transfer window.
The contract would reportedly dwarf his current deal of £350,000 per week, and would see him become the highest earner in the SPL, which is no mean feat. The winger is valued at €65 million on Transfermarkt and has two years left on his current deal with Liverpool.
Bayern Munich and France international defender Benjamin Pavard is on the cusp of completing a €32 million switch to Inter Milan, as the deal is agreed between clubs and player. The 27-year-old has reportedly ‘not trained for days’ ahead of his anticipated switch from the Bavarians to the Nerazzurri. The player has been linked with multiple top European clubs throughout the window, including Manchester United and Liverpool.
Brentford left the race for 22-year-old Nottingham Forest winger Brennan Johnson, leaving Tottenham with a clear shot for the Wales international, who would cost in the region of £50 million. Johnson impressed in his debut Premier League season last term, notching 8 goals and 3 assists whilst playing for a Forest side in the heat of a relegation dogfight.
Possessing the versatility to excel both as a winger and a striker, Johnson’s addition would inject a vital dose of effectiveness into the Tottenham Hotspur’s offensive line. The most probable scenario sees Johnson occupying the right-wing slot, affording Richarlison the opportunity to acclimate himself to the number 9 role vacated by Bayern-bound Harry Kane.
However, given Richarlison’s uncertain form at the season’s outset, an equally plausible alternative is that Postecoglou opts to deploy Johnson as a dedicated and pure number 9, using his pace to break high defensive lines as seen in Postecoglou’s Celtic setup last term.
