Deals not done: Chelsea to put last minute bet on Toney, Spurs chase Fati

August 30 – Chelsea could reportedly launch a last-minute £80 million bid for 27-year-old Brentford striker Ivan Toney ahead of the transfer window closure on September 1.

The English forward scored 20 Premier League goals last term before serving a suspension given to him by the FA for breaching betting rules. If a deal were to materialise, the player could not play for the blues until his suspension is served in February 2024.

Spurs have been in close contact with 20-year-old Barcelona star Ansu Fati after he revealed his intention to leave the LaLiga champions last week. The Spanish international inherited the famous number 10 shirt at the Nou Camp and was even deemed to be the next Messi in his early days at the club.

The breakthrough of 16-year-old starlet Lamine Yamal has catalysed Fati’s decision to part ways with the Blaugrana, as the young talent looks to lock down the left wing for years to come. Chelsea are also reportedly interested in Fati.

Manchester City Youth Academy graduate Cole Palmer has been added to Chelsea’s attacking wish list as they look to bolster their forward options even further. The 21-year-old was a key part of the Citizens pre-season, scoring the equaliser in the UEFA Super Cup that set the sky blues on course to win the bout on penalties.

He also impressed during England’s U21 EURO trophy-winning campaign, where he assisted the winning goal with a free kick in the final after his shot deflected off Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones.

Manchester United have turned to Lyon’s 30-year-old Argentinian left-back Nicholas Tagliafico in the latest attempt to resolve their left back injury woes. The move would reunite the ex-Ajax player with his former coach Erik Ten Hag, who he performed best under at the Dutch club. The Red Devils have also been linked to Chelsea full back Marc Cucurella after his €60 million move from Brighton didn’t live up to expectations and has seen him slip down the pecking order for the blues’ left hand side.

Besiktas are set to offer a return to football to controversial 21-year-old Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood after it was announced he would leave Old Trafford after the club faced a severe backlash from fan groups regarding his situation at the club.

Chelsea are also still considering signing Atletico Madrid wantaway Joao Felix, who spent the back end of last season on loan with the blues, after the 23-year-old Portugal international publicly stated that he wants out of Diego Simeone’s side. Linked with Barcelona but with a move yet to come into fruition, a permanent move back to West London may be what the player needs to rejuvenate his career after a €127 million move to the Spanish capital four years ago.

Free agent Jesse Lingard is poised for a return to West Ham as the Hammers reportedly prepare a short-term contract for the ex-England international. Lingard impressed on loan at West Ham during the 2020/21 season, where he scored 9 goals for the club between the winter window and the end of the season.

Arsenal have reportedly rejected an advance from Chelsea for England U21 star Emile Smith Rowe as they look for yet another attacking option to accompany Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku as new forward signings.
