September 19 – Major League Soccer in the US, which owns the contracts of all players in the league, has terminated the contract of CF Montreal midfielder Matko Milijevic for breaking MLS player agreement rules.
Milijevic reportedly played in a Quebec indoor league under an assumed name, punched an opposition player in the face and was then banned for life by the league.
Under MLS contracts, players can only play for their MLS club.
In a statement the MLS said that Milijevic had been released for “engaging in conduct detrimental to the league and violating his Standard Player Agreement”.
Milijevic, 22, made his MLS debut for Montreal in 2021 and has played 35 times, scoring twice from midfield.
Miami-born, he joined Montreal from Argentinos Juniors.
