October 4 – The Football federation of Cyprus (CFA), in collaboration with the National Betting Authority, is promoting a week of information and awareness around Safe Gaming October 9-15.
The Cyprus FA has earmarked the 7th round of the Cyta Championship (First division) and the 4th round of the 2nd Division Championship for an information campaign educating the players and the general public about the safe practice of betting and games of chance.
In all matches the players will enter the pitch wearing the shirts for the information week and will also carry a special banner.
“The National Betting Authority in Cyprus is organizing Safer Gambling Week for the sixth consecutive year and is inviting everyone to participate. This year’s Safer Gambling Week uses the theme “Enjoy the game, play safely!”, and provides a unique opportunity for everyone to be informed, to think and discuss openly about safer gambling in Cyprus, as well as all the things we can and should do in order to keep gambling an enjoyable, healthy and safe activity. According to the latest prevalence study, 55% of the population engages in gambling as a form of entertainment, which shows that Safer Gambling concerns everyone”, said the organisers.
“How can you keep gambling as a safe and fun activity? What self-protection tools are at the disposal of players? What are the risks of problem gambling and how do they affect society? When should oneself seek help and what are the available treatment facilities? These are just some of the issues that will be discussed during Safer Gambling Week, through a plethora of events and activities that are open to the public. The ultimate goal of Safer Gambling Week is to provide information and create awareness about safer gambling, in collaboration with all relevant stakeholders,” said the National Betting Authority.
“The SGW constitutes a platform for constructive dialogue and information exchange for a number of stakeholders such as gambling sector professionals, players, their families and friends, and even the communities in which they belong. During the week, the public can participate in presentations, educational seminars, interactive workshops, fun games and other activities. Part of the SGW will be the 6th Safer Gambling Conference, where renowned academics and experienced professionals will share best practices and valuable insights.”
