Kansas City Current fast track new stadium naming rights to CPKC

October 23 – The National Women’s Soccer League’s (NWSL) Kansas City Current have announced a ten-year stadium naming rights deal with North American rail network CPKC.

The 11,500-capacity stadium, being developed at the Berkley Riverfront Park; Kansas City at a cost of $117 million, will be called the CPKC Stadium and is expected to open in 2024.

CPKC, headquartered in Kansas City, was created in April 2023 with the merger of two historic railways – Canadian Pacific (CP) and Kansas City Southern (KCS). The company is the first and only single-line transnational railway linking Canada, the United States and México.

KC Current co-founders and owners Angie and Chris Long said: “Our organizations share a commitment to strive for excellence, invest heavily in our communities and raise the bar with global influence.

As well as naming rights for CPKC Stadium, the space at the entrance to the stadium will be called CPKC Plaza and will provide space to gather before stadium events as well as being the location of the Kansas City Current shop.

“We are incredibly proud to sponsor the Kansas City Current and support this history-making project here in the city that is at the heart of our North American rail network,” said Keith Creel, CPKC President and CEO.

“CPKC has been a longtime champion of women’s sports and of investing in our communities. This stadium and this partnership with the Current will build on that legacy as together we write a new chapter here in Kansas City.”

No value was given for the naming rights.
