November 5 – Brazil have confirmed their bid for the 2027 Women’s World. Cup with the handover of a governmental declaration to FIFA by the minister of sport André Fufuca.
Signed by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, the declaration contains the government’s guarantees that FIFA requires from candidate hosts, including tax exemptions, work permits and visa procedures.
Fufuca handed the document over to FIFA supremo Gianni Infantino on the sidelines of the Copa Libertadores final at the Maracana.
“The Brazilian bid to host the Women’s World Cup is part of the current government policy of stimulus to bigger participation of women in soccer,” said Brazil’s sports ministry in a statement.
The bid’s campaign slogan is ‘Uma Escolha Natural’ (A Natural Choice) and the Brazilians propose to use the stadiums that served as venues during the 2014 World Cup, highlighting that Brazil has all the infrastructure required to stage the tournament. The bid team has previously expressed its confidence that Brazil can land the hosting rights.
Brazil will be up against bids including the European triumvirate of Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany, a joint bid by the United States and Mexico, as well as a bid by South Africa.
Brazil expressed interest in hosting the 2023 Women’s World Cup, and submitted a bid book but ultimately withdrew before the final vote. Earlier this summer Australia and New Zealand co-hosted the tournament.
Bid books for the 2027 finals must be submitted by December 8 with on-site inspections scheduled to take place in February.
FIFA will vote for the host country at the FIFA Congress in May 2024 in Bangkok.
South America and Africa have never staged the Women’s World Cup.
