France break scoring records with 14-0 drubbing of Gibralter

November 20 – A rampant France shattered the record for the biggest European championship qualifying victory in their thrashing of 10-man Gibraltar 14-0 in Euro 2024 qualifying this weekend.

The French are already through to the Germany tournament but did not take things easy as Kylian Mbappe hit a hat-trick that included a 40-yard strike.

In a record-breaking evening for Les Bleus, the staggering 14-0 score line marks the biggest win in the history of the France national team.

The scoring extravaganza began early, with Ethan Santos unintentionally turning Jonathan Clauss’ cross into his own net within three minutes. Marcus Thuram swiftly added another goal, setting the pace for France’s relentless attack.

The spotlight, however, fell on teenager Warren Zaire-Emery, who at 17 years and eight months, etched his name in history as France’s youngest player since 1914. His debut goal at the 18th-minute mark propelled France to a commanding 3-0 lead before an unfortunate injury forced him off the field.

Gibraltar’s woes compounded as Santos received a red card in the 18th minute, leaving them a man short. Kylian Mbappe, showcasing his prowess, netted a hat-trick, including an astonishing 40-yard strike that left goalkeeper Dayle Coleing helpless.

France’s first half ended with a 7-0 lead, with goals flowing from various sources including Clauss, Kingsley Coman, and Youssouf Fofana. While there was a brief lull in their scoring momentum, Adrien Rabiot reignited the goal spree in the 63rd minute.

The second half then witnessed a renewed onslaught from France, as Coman and Ousmane Dembele added to the scoreline. Mbappe continued his stellar performance with two more goals.

The relentless attack culminated in Olivier Giroud picking up two goals in quick succession, sealing an emphatic victory. France’s dominance saw a remarkable 39 shots on goal, while Gibraltar failed to register a single attempt.
