The design was inspired by the traditional ghafiya, a traditional woven cap in the region,
worn by men and boys across the Middle East.
Al Thumama Stadium’s inauguration was as host of the 49th Amir Cup Final.
The stadium hosted six games during last year’s FIFA Arab Cup.
At the World Cup Qatar 2022 it hosted matches up to and including the quarter-finals.
The stadium design was inspired by the ghafiya, a traditional woven cap in the region, and is meant to symbolise Qatar’s youth.
